Light had to get out of the house. His mother was beginning to get suspicious since he was up there all the time, and getting home early. Plus, he was pretty sure that eventually the police would suspect him of being Kira, and he wanted to be sure that all suspicion would go as quick as it would come. His father wasn't a threat, as he was gone all the time, but if they figured out that Kira had a connection to the police, then he would be one of the suspects.
Light walked casually down the street, thinking of how things were going quite well. Ryuk was floating behind him moaning about apples and how he wanted another. Light was more preoccupied with thinking about the Death Note, and what steps he would take to keep suspicion as far away from him as possible. At least the Death Note was protected in his drawer of his desk now, with the device he set up to burn the notebook if someone found out where it was. Now it was just time to wait. Waiting wasn't fun.
